University of Alabama

The University of Alabama Circle K has a rich tradition in the K-Family.  Built in 1954, UA's club was the first to be built in the district.   Moreover, it was built four years before the Alabama District was officially organized and recognized in 1958.  Being one of the original 5 clubs in the District, the UA Circle K has had great club, district, and international leadership.   In fact, our club has had 2 International Presidents, 12 International Vice Presidents, 3 International Secretaries, and 15 International Trustees. On the District level we have had many great leaders.   Since 1954, we have has 12 District Governors.  Also, since 1999 we have had 1 District Governor, 2 District Secretaries, 4 District Treasurers, 3 District Editors, 6 Warrior Division Lieutenant Governors, and 5 District Revitalization Chairs.

About the School

The University of Alabama, founded in 1831, is the state's first university.  In 2006 we celebrated our 175th birthday at the Capstone.  UA is nestled in the west Alabama city of Tuscaloosa.  Tuscaloosa is approximately 45 minutes west of Birmingham, and about 1.5 hours east of Meridian, Mississippi.

The University of Alabama is ranked among the top 50 public universities in the nation for the sixth consecutive year in U.S. News and World Report’s annual college rankings, fall 2006. The University of Alabama is a national leader in the enrollment of National Merit, National Achievement and National Hispanic Scholars, with 198 scholars in the fall 2006 freshman class. These numbers include 83 National Merit Scholars, a 15 percent increase over last year’s 72.  UA ranked 13th in the nation among public universities in the enrollment of National Merit Scholars in 2005.  Six University of Alabama students were named to the 2006 USA Today All-USA College Academic Team, the most of any school in the nation. UA's four-year total of 20 also tops all other colleges and universities.  Enrollment at The University of Alabama is at a record high of 23,878 for fall 2006. The entering freshman class, at 4,378 students, is the largest in UA history.  Within that 23, 878, UA has students representing 86 countries.

In addition, UA is home to over 300 student organizations, with UA Circle K among this group.  UA Circle K's sponsoring Kiwanis club the Tuscaloosa Kiwanis Club.  Under the leadership of Advisor Alton Highsmith and District Administrator David Womack, UA CKI participates in many service projects including: Pet Therapy, Habitat for Humanity, Meals on Wheels, Arts and Autism, Relay for Life, Luminaries on the Quad, Blood Drives, Best Buddies, Reading is Fundamental, and many more.
